Dental CBCT for 3-Dimensional Imaging

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - June 9, 2015 - PRLog -- An open letter to Our Patients, Future Patients, and Referring Doctors:

It is with great pride and excitement that we announce the integration of a new technology just installed in our office.  The iCat was a huge investment for the office with, what we hope, promises to help many of our patients.

What is it?
Dental CBCT  (Cone beam computed tomography) images provide three-dimensional (3-D) information, rather than the two-dimensional (2-D) information provided by a conventional X-ray image.  This generally provides us greater insight for the diagnosis, treatment planning and evaluation of certain conditions.

One 3D scan will provide comprehensive information about the following:

- Airways and sinus obstruction for patients who are having difficulty breathing through their noses and patients who we are treating for orthodontics and sleep apnea.
- Orthodontic landmarks and jaw positioning for patients who are treated with orthodontics.  We have, in the past, had consulted a cephalometric x-ray, which is a 2D image, but this will give us far greater detail.
- Tempro Mandibular Joint Disorder therapy for so many of the patients that come to us have pain in their TMJ, which is the hinge for your jaw. This scan will allow us to see the joint position and shape of the condyles.  It will help us assess our treatment plan as well as support and advance our progress through care.
- Determining pathology.  We will be able to confirm the ifs and whats that are the reasons for discomfort, swelling, root fractures, growths etc.
- Implant placement.  While we do not place implants, we will see if there is adequate bone for a successful implant insertion.  We can also provide our patient with the image to give to the surgeon who will be placing the implant.
- Cervical spine images reveal detailed information at the upper part of the spine.

Should we would need to refer you for care to another provider, we can provide the image in a DICOM format, complete with reader, so that your physician, dentist or chiropractor can view.

Soon, we will be updating our website: www.bethsnyderdmd.com with some sample images.  Remember, though, what you are seeing are 2-D because you are looking at a single image with your monitor.  When we are viewing your file, we are looking at many slices resulting in a 3-D view.
