GeoComm Selected by the State of Texas to Develop Statewide NG9-1-1 GIS Standards

SAINT CLOUD, Minn. - June 9, 2015 - PRLog -- GeoComm was recently selected by the Texas Commission on State Emergency Communications (CSEC) to facilitate the development of the CSEC NG9-1-1 GIS Data Standard.  Kathy Liljequist, GISP and GeoComm GIS Consultant, led the Emergency Communications Advisory Committee (ECAC) which consisted of stakeholders from throughout the state, to review NG9-1-1 system requirements and identify the GIS data layers that would be part of the state-level standards.

Once the standards were finalized, the ECAC provided the CSEC with a comprehensive document outlining all of the GIS data requirements needed to meet the CSEC NG9-1-1 standards.  These GIS standards will be utilized in CSEC’s NG9-1-1 system to ensure that accurate emergency call routing and location verification is taking place. “This was a huge step and a key milestone for the CSEC to move forward in developing its NG9-1-1 system,” said Kelli Merriweather, CSEC Executive Director.  “GeoComm did an excellent job working with statewide stakeholders and most definitely helped make it a success.”

“GIS data will play a large role in a NG9-1-1 environment, primarily to validate locations and route 9-1-1 calls, regardless of the calling device.  We applaud the CSEC in taking this vital step to ensure the GIS data being used in their NG9-1-1 system is well maintained and interoperable,” Kathy Liljequist, GeoComm GIS Consultant.

GeoComm was also selected recently by CSEC to provide NG9-1-1 GIS Managed Services to the State of Texas http://www.geo-comm.com/csec-project/
