By: Elliott Broidy Elliott Broidy served as executive producer for the independent film, ‘Sugar.” He joined the crew after meeting with Director Rotimi Rainwater, whose personal experiences with homelessness are the basis for the movie. Elliott Broidy was in awe over the passion and care of this project. As a philanthropist working hard to improve his hometown of Los Angeles as well as the entire country, Elliott Broidy was immediately committed to the films goals. “Sugar” follows a fictitious young girl, Sugar, who is homeless in Venice Beach. The film follows Sugar and her homeless friends as they navigate forming their own kind of family living on the streets of Los Angeles. Despite the film’s cultural and critical achievements Rainwater gives credit to Elliott Broidy, the philanthropist who stood behind “Sugar.” “He’s been an amazing supporter of the film,” said Rainwater in an interview with Politico. “There’s so much that can get done if you have the right people who believe in you and thankfully people listen when he makes a call; hopefully we can make some changes.” “Sugar” has been named the winner of the Manhattan Film Festival’s “Film Heals Award.” Dedicated to developing and discovering new ways to help filmmakers pursue a career out of filmmaking, the Manhattan Film Festival was recently named one of “25 film festivals worth the entry fee” by Movie Maker Magazine. Elliott Broidy graduated with an MBA from the USC Marshall School Business. He went on to start Broidy Capital Management in 1991. Elliott Broidy was appointed by Secretary Michael Chertoff to serve on the United States Homeland Security Advisory Council and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Police Foundation. Elliott Broidy was also appointed by the President to serve on the Board of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington. End
