Despite the film’s cultural and critical achievements Rainwater gives credit to Elliott Broidy, the philanthropist who stood behind “Sugar.”

“He’s been an amazing supporter of the film,” said Rainwater in an interview with Politico. “There’s so much that can get done if you have the right people who believe in you and thankfully people listen when he makes a call; hopefully we can make some changes.”

“Sugar” has been named the winner of the Manhattan Film Festival’s “Film Heals Award.” Dedicated to developing and discovering new ways to help filmmakers pursue a career out of filmmaking, the Manhattan Film Festival was recently named one of “25 film festivals worth the entry fee” by Movie Maker Magazine.
