TORONTO - June 8, 2015 - PRLog -- You hear it all the time, a woman’s hair is her crowning glory. And by any stretch these days – be it long or short - to have great hair you need to start with a great base.

Think of your scalp like the soil you plant your seeds in. If the soil is arid, depleted of nutrients or in poor condition, your plant will not thrive. But with so many products and claims out there how do you know which really works and which is best for you? Argon Oil? Keratin Treatments? Biotin Pills? Mayonnaise??  All these miracle treatments are promoted by celebrities, and their celeb stylists.  But experimenting with the latest fad can be expensive, and frustrating.

Whether you’re a teen, a new mom or busy woman, preventing hair loss (due to stress, hormones or genetics) getting insider secrets on how to grow a great head of hair, always seems to be one of the biggest requests I get. Here are some of our stylists’ best tips to help you grow longer, stronger hair:

1.    Don't strip your hair. Shampoo can strip your hair of its natural oils and leave hair dry. A shampoo that is balanced for your hair/scalp type coupled with a good conditioner/mask will clean your scalp and maintain beautiful hair.

2.    Wash Daily. The skin on your scalp is the same as the skin on your face. You wash your face daily, so why not your scalp?  Related to the tip above, if you have a clean scalp that is exfoliated daily though washing, you are creating a better environment, through clear and healthy follicles, for your hair to grow.

3.    Use a leave-in conditioner. This will provide both protection and daily light nourishing. But don’t coat your hair. A light mist that is combed through with a brush or your fingers is all you need.

4.    Don’t put your hair up when it’s wet, or twist it in a towel. This can cause tension alopecia and lead to unnecessary hair fall. Gently towel dry your hair with a big fluffy towel and squeeze the water out of your hair while in the towel.

5.    Eat right. The old adage ‘you are what you eat’ couldn’t be truer when it comes to your hair. A diet rich in anti-oxidants, proteins, good oils (but not greasy food) and green leafy vegetables helps your body get the natural nutrients that support healthy hair (and nail) growth.

6.    Don’t stress. Easier said than done but stress causes hair fall and if you’ve ever had a bout of stress, the floor around you, and likely your pillow case, will show evidence of it. During stressful times make a point of breathing: 3-4 deeps breaths over a minute or two every hour will help you to find calm, recalibrate, and help you to take in some much needed oxygen to improve your circulation and reduce the overall effects of shallow breathing.

7.    Trichology treatments. This is a new term for a lot of people – Say it with us: (Try-Call-uh-Jee). Trichological treatments will help to make sure your scalp is in optimal condition for hair growth and follicle strength....and it feels great too! More and more hair specialists, dermatologists and those of us in the hair industry are suggesting this as your first line of defense. A tricho test, with a high magnification scope to examine your hair, will determine the type of hair/scalp you have and how to get everything in balance. Getting Trichological treatments 1 or more times a year is no different than getting a facial and helps to maintain, nourish and strengthen your hair follicles. The scalp messages are an added bonus

You wash your face, you brush your teeth and moisturize your skin before bed, so why not a little TLC for your hair?  After all every woman deserves a crown!
