Long Beach City FC go home with a point in UPSL Play

Long Beach City FC Draw 2-2 against PFC Venice in there inaugural game

LONG BEACH, Calif. - June 6, 2015 - PRLog -- – The Long Beach City FC (0-1-0) (www.longbeachcityfc.com) battled to a 2-2 draw against PFC Venice (UPSL) on Sunday night in its Season Opener and inaugural game at Toyota Sports Park in Torrance, CA. Long Beach City FC “Young Gun” Erik Carbajal opened the score sheets for the Citizens in Club History.

The Citizens had to work hard on this match as they were facing an experienced and well established UPSL club PFC Venice with an array of quality playing talent. The Citizens had it tough being that it was their first game as a team and were able to pretty much do what they had to do to stay in the match and keep PFC on its toes throughout the game.

The Citizens opened the scoring early in the first half on a great goal that seemed to surprise PFC Venice as the Citizens “Young Gun” Erik Carbajal netted the first goal in the 7th minute off a nice assist from Long Beach Forward Daniel Delgadillo. The goal sparked the Citizens but Venice did not back off and shot the ball in the net on the 19th and 27th minute to giving them a lead of 2-1.

Coach Herrera did not want to go into halftime down by one so he immediately made a change in midfield during the 30th min bringing out Saudi Arabian international Ayman Aljohani and getting Jerry Garcia into the mix. Short after the change, in the 39th minute after a great combination of passes by the Citizens Jerry Garcia and Christian Gutierrez, they spotted Roberto Toribio who took the ball and sent it through PFC Venice defense for an on rushing Giovanni Reynaga who slammed home the ball giving the Citizens the draw at half.

The second half for the Citizens did not start with a bang as the PFC Venice attack unleashed. PFC Venice had a total of 7 shots on target that were kept away from the net by Long Beach City goalkeeper Javier Torres who had an outstanding half to help keep the score at 2-2 after being subbed in for Christopher Johnson at half.

Long Beach City Head Coach Miguel Herrera stated, “ Venice is a good club and the game was a good test for us tonight. The boys did what they had to do to get out of here with our heads held high but it was not a game that I thought was our best. We had our moments of decent possession but we were not knocking the ball around like we wanted to and had way to many mistakes as that is what we will continue to work on in practice and into next weeks match.”
