HIGHLAND, N.Y. - June 4, 2015 - PRLog -- Wingate at Ulster, a leading skilled nursing and rehabilitation center in New York’s Hudson River Valley, announced today the launch of their Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program created to treat high acuity pulmonary patients. Wingate at Ulster is one of few skilled nursing facilities serving the hospitals in the Hudson River Valley and nearby New York City to provide this care onsite. This is the second specialized pulmonary program opened by Wingate Healthcare this year; Wingate at Sudbury announced their program in April.

Patients participating in the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Wingate at Ulster receive an individualized plan of care created by Wingate’s interdisciplinary team led by an onsite Respiratory Therapist. The program is aligned with guidelines from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is administered over a period of 8 to 12 weeks, with patients receiving weekly one-on-one visits with Wingate at Ulster’s Respiratory Therapist in addition to daily physical and occupational therapy sessions. Patients diagnosed with bronchiectasis, COPD, emphysema, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, neuromuscular disease, obesity-related respiratory disease, asthma, post-operative thoracic/abdominal surgery and ventilator dependency are candidates for the program.

The Pulmonary Rehab Program’s team of professionals is led by Clinical Coordinator Joseph Potts, a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Joe has extensive experience in the area of Cardio-Pulmonary Rehab, beginning his career at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital. He later joined the New York Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital as Senior Respiratory Practitioner responsible for the operations of the Critical Care Unit, developing a program that is used in facilities throughout New York.

“We are proud to be able to provide tailored care for patients with respiratory illnesses in the Hudson River Valley,” said Maura Brennan, Administrator of Wingate at Ulster. “Led by Joe and his team, the opportunity to offer this unique program in our skilled center enables us to help our patients facing these difficult diagnoses improve more quickly and return to a high quality of life.”

Wingate at Ulster is accepting pulmonary patients at this time. For more information visit www.wingateathighland.com.
