VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - June 3, 2015 - PRLog -- Through its corporate volunteering and outreach program, The SOLution, SOLitude Lake Management, an industry leader in lake and pond management, fisheries management and related environmental services for the Eastern United States, focused company volunteer efforts on working with children to teach them the lifelong skill of fishing, along with the value of maintaining ecological balance.

At Heritage Day at Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria, VA on April 4, lead fisheries biologist David Beasley, worked with school-aged children to teach them about the native fish in their area.  In addition, he taught youth and families how to have fun fishing by providing one-on-one instruction on techniques.  The event had record attendance this year with over 1,000 children participating.

On May 16 at the Family and Youth Casting Call at Fletcher's Boat House in Washington, D.C on the C&O Canal, the Northern Virginia SOLitude team volunteered to pre-stock the canal with catfish, purchased by the event organizers, in order to teach the children how to “catch and release” fish.  The team worked one-on-one with school-aged children to teach fishing skills and how to easily remove bass and catfish from the hooks. Some of the children even caught their first fish at this memorable event where about 600 families joined in on the fun.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of volunteering at an educational and ecological fishing event is seeing the children’s faces when they find the joy in the lifelong sport of fishing,” said David Beasley.  “I am proud to bring my many years of experience to a new generation of fishermen and fisherwomen.”

SOLitude has volunteered at both educational events for the past three years.
