Follow on Google News | SAFE Shelter Savannah Announces Camp R.O.C.K. 2015Summer camp for children ages 5-17 to be offered during June and July
By: carriage Trade PR The name Camp R.O.C.K. derives from “Recognizing Our Children’s ’K’reativity.” “Many of the children, some who have grown up here, have never even had a chance to run on the beach at Tybee, take a trolley ride through Savannah or tour local museums,” said Cheryl Haven Branch, SAFE Shelter’s executive director. “We provide lunch and snacks, including picnics in some of the many beautiful squares downtown, and offer a range of indoor activities conducted in our facility. At the end of the camp, participants treat us to some kind of production, either singing or dancing or both.” This is the fifth year for Camp R.O.C.K., funded by a group of dedicated volunteers from the Landings at Skidaway Island who hold annual fundraisers for this purpose. In addition, Hank and Marion Policinski, in coordination with the Notre Dame Center for Social Concern, have provided student interns to help staff the camp. “Our campers have the opportunity to expand their horizons during the summer, embarking on new adventures, and having fun,” Branch added. “Our exceptional program and dedicated staff create an environment that forges a summer experience that lets our campers just be kids for a while". In addition to providing a safe, fun environment for children who have been affected by domestic violence, Camp R.O.C.K. also provides their mothers the opportunity to go on job interviews, take care of family matters or simply enjoy a little break time.
