CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - June 2, 2015 - PRLog -- Girls Thinking Global (GTG) announced today that it has appointed Ginny Kirkland as its new executive director and added five new members to its Board of Directors.

Ms. Kirkland brings with her more than 20 years of experience in government relations, education, and non-profit work. She will be leading the organization, which is dedicated to connecting non-profits that serve adolescent girls and young women around the world.

The newly appointed board members include: Niquelle Cotton, Director of Engagement for BrightBytes; Holly Jobe, Past President of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE); Lillian Kellogg, Vice President of Education Networks of American (ENA); John Richards, President of Consulting Services for Education; and Ileana Rowe, Principal Consultant, IRowe & Associates; and John Wilson, former Executive Director of the National Education Association.

“This is a vibrant group of people,” CEO, Girls Thinking Global, Kathy Hurley said. “We’re very pleased to have such a versatile team building a collaborative network for girls around the world.”

Launched in 2014 by cofounders Deb deVries and Kathy Hurley, Girls Thinking Global connects global change-makers to empower and educate adolescent girls and young women worldwide. The organization is currently building the GTG Collaborative, a gathering place to share information, best practices, volunteerism opportunities and organizational needs.

Through the GTG Collaborative, individuals and organizations, large and small, are given the opportunity to research, identify and support programs that educate and serve adolescent girls and young women.  Ultimately, the GTG Collaborative will enable organizations to better serve the girls in their programs by leveraging resources, reducing redundancy and sharing information.

Ms. Kirkland is pleased to be leading an organization with such a purposeful mission and dynamic Board of Directors, and her experience and history made her a natural fit for the role of executive director. She spent the last eight years working as the Lead Outreach Coordinator for the Pearson Foundation.

“Ms. Kirkland’s robust background developing large-scale outreach and awareness campaigns will be a great asset,” said Deb deVries, President, Girls Thinking Global. “We are excited to see Girls Thinking Global flourish under her leadership.”

"I am honored to be asked to join Girls Thinking Global as its new executive director," stated Kirkland.  "Collaboration and connection are at the heart of our modern world and if we can bring these powerful tools to organizations that serve adolescent girls around the world, we can not only impact individual girls, but also change the societies in which they live."

Girls Thinking Global is excited about welcoming organizations that help girls and young women to connect, collaborate, share, and support each other.
