Lake Pointe Wound Care Center Participates in Second Annual Wound Care Awareness Week

ROWLETT, Texas - June 1, 2015 - PRLog -- In an effort to raise awareness of the advanced treatment options for the 6.7 million Americans living with chronic wounds, Lake Pointe Wound Care Center (LPWCC) is participating in Wound Care Awareness Week, which begins today. Sponsored by Healogics, Inc., Wound Care Awareness Week is a nation-wide effort to inform every patient living with chronic non-healing wounds about the benefits of advanced wound care. Wound Care Awareness Week also aims to help community physicians identify patients who may benefit from advanced wound care.

“Left untreated, chronic wounds can lead to infection and even amputation,” says Dr. Rebecca Jankowski, medical director at LPWCC. “At Lake Pointe Wound Care Center, we provide individualized treatment plans for patients with chronic wounds, which can help speed up the healing process and help the patient avoid infection or amputation.”

Wounds are becoming a larger burden on the healthcare system because of the aging population and increased prevalence of chronic conditions such as obesity and diabetes, both of which lead to chronic wounds. The cost to treat advanced wounds exceeds $50 billion annually in the United States.  It is estimated that 30 percent of people with untreated wounds will need an amputation and 50 percent of those amputees will die within five years of amputation. Due to the lack of awareness of advanced wound care, the vast majority of people with chronic wounds do not receive proper treatment.
