CARLISLE, Pa. - June 1, 2015 - PRLog -- Nearly two months ago, Carlisle Events broke the news that a 1977 Bandit Trans Am owned by the legendary Burt Reynolds would be part of the Spring Carlisle auction, presented by Carlisle Auctions.  Not only was the car part of the auction, it sold for a hefty sum to one lucky bidder.  Now, after very brief discussions, that car owner, who happens to be local to central Pennsylvania, will be showcasing the Bandit car as part of the 2015 Carlisle GM Nationals, June 26-28 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds.

It’s fitting that a car that garnered so much hype initially is coming back to Carlisle where it was most recently sold.  This time, instead of crossing the auction block, it will sit within Building T and be a centerpiece attraction to a building filled with Fabulous Fins of the ’50s and ‘60s as well as the general indoor invitational displays that guests of GM weekend have come to know and love.

While the Trans Am has been a part of the Carlisle GM Nationals for years, the ones themed like those seen in the popular film Smokey and the Bandit always turn heads.  What makes this one even more special is that it was owned by the Bandit himself, Burt Reynolds.  Purchased by Reynolds in 2014, it was meticulously restored by long time friend and Trans Am restoration expert Harold Murphy of Murphy Auto Body and Restoration in West Palm Beach, Florida.  From the completion of its restoration through April the car was Reynolds’ collection.  Following its sale at Spring Carlisle, the car took permanent residency in the Hershey area, with GM weekend being its first car show and its first return to Carlisle.

Along with this car, guests can see a wide array of GM history, all in one place.  Not only does Building T host the Fabulous Fins of the ‘50s and ‘60s, Building Y hosts a 30-year reunion celebration of the IROC Camaro, while Building G spotlights what’s known as the Solid Lifter Showroom.  SLS VII welcomes ’70 Yenko Deuce Novas, along with other ‘70s performance cars. Another very special part of this display will be 1967 Camaro #001 – the first Camaro ever built.  In addition, the general showfield hosts cars that span the history of the brand, which in most cases, means 100+ years of history come to Carlisle.

Showfield registration is available online now through the week of the event and anyone looking to be part of the event as a vendor, patron or enthusiast showing a car can visit www.CarlisleEvents.com or call 717-243-7855 to get involved.
