Executive Director of The Center for Contemporary Art Receives Governor’s Award in Arts Education

BEDMINSTER, N.J. - May 29, 2015 - PRLog -- Elie Porter Trubert, Executive Director of The Center for Contemporary Art (“The Center”) in Bedminster, recently received a New Jersey Governor’s Award in Arts Education. Award recipients from across the state were recognized for their, “conscientious work, dedication, extraordinary talent and demonstrated excellence” at a ceremony at the War Memorial in Trenton on May 27th.

The Governor’s Awards in Arts Education began in 1980 to promote awareness and appreciation of the arts, recognizing the creativity, talent and leadership of the award winners. Each year, awards are presented to approximately 20 educators and 80 students. National and statewide organizations select the students for their exemplary work in creative writing, speech, dance, music, theatre and visual arts and the leaders for their exceptional commitment and contribution to arts education. The program also recognizes arts educators and arts education advocates, whose leadership has helped nurture the development of students in the arts across the state.

Trubert of Lebanon Township has led The Center for Contemporary Art for over four years, since its name change from the Somerset Art Association. Before joining the staff at The Center, she held the position of Director of Development at the Visual Art Center of New Jersey (Summit), Morris Arts (Morristown) and the Hunterdon Art Museum (Clinton).

All programs at The Center focus on art education with a vibrant studio art school, rotating exhibition and community outreach programs for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, adults with disabilities and people affected by cancer. In addition, each year The Center for Contemporary Art hosts Youth Art Month exhibits for Somerset County and “Hooray for May!,” a family art day, welcoming nearly 1,000 young artists and their families to its facility for free programming.

The Center for Contemporary Art is located at 2020 Burnt Mills Road in Bedminster, NJ. For further information, please call (908) 234-2345 or visit The Center for Contemporary Art online at http://ccabedminster.org/
