May 29, 2015 - PRLog -- BOZEMAN—Montana State University’s online graduate courses for science teachers are now open for summer registration. The courses are all part of MSU Extended University’s National Teachers Enhancement Network (NTEN). Most courses start in early to mid-June.

Summer 2015 courses include offerings in biology; physics; earth science; land resources and environmental science (LRES); microbiology; math; and education, curriculum, and instruction (EDCI).

One popular summer offering includes Streamside Science: Hands-On Approaches to Water Quality Education (LRES 591). Students participating in this course adopt a local stream for the duration of the course to better understand hands-on water quality monitoring techniques. Students receive an elaborate set of materials to use during the course to perform tests on their local stream.

Physics courses include: Astronomy for Teachers (PHSX 511); Electric Circuits and Magnetism (PHSX 591); The World of Motion (PHSX 591); and Conceptual Physics (PHSX 491).

Other classes include: Environmental Science Education: Summer Ecological Field Studies (EDCI 591); Fundamentals of Oceanography (ERTH 591); Understanding Climate Change (ERTH 591); Earth System Science (ERTH 591); Plant Science: It Grows on You (BIO 591); and Environmental-Applied Microbiology (MB 540).

Teachers do not have to enroll in an MSU degree program in order to take the courses. Teachers who go on to pursue MSU’s 12-credit online graduate certificates in science teaching or the university’s Master’s of Science in Science Education degree may be able to transfer in some credits after being accepted. A discount of 10 percent is available on most courses for members of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA).
