Follow on Google News | Mona Golabek, Concert Pianist and Author, to Perform June 10 at Dallas Holocaust Museum EventGolabek brings book to life in one-woman piano concert and theatrical performance
By: The Dallas Holocaust Museum/Center for Education Golabek, coauthor of “The Children of Willesden Lane: Beyond the Kindertransport: "I'm delighted that Mona Golabek is coming to Dallas despite her ever challenging performance schedule. This award winning concert pianist will fill the Wyly with music and stories. I know many will remember her hosting the Romantic Hour on WRR and are eager to welcome her to Dallas." Golabek’s mother, born in Austria, was among the 10,000 Jewish children brought to England as part of the Kindertransport, a mission to rescue children threatened by the Nazis just before World War II. Separated from their families, these children were placed in British foster homes or schools. At the time, Golabek’s mother was a promising pianist herself, and music served as the key to her survival and ultimate success. Golabek captured her mother’s journey in her 2003 book, which she coauthored with Lee Cohen. Golabek’s performance, which debuted in 2012, is adapted from the book and combines acting and classical music to recount her mother’s inspiring story. A review of the debut performance describes the show saying it “strikes musical and emotional notes that transcend technical display or biographical sentiment.” It later adds that Golabek’s “rarefied ability and captivating story…makes her unforgettable tribute an undiluted privilege to witness.” Golabek will be performing the show in Dallas on June 10, 2015 at the Wyly Theatre. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. A VIP reception will follow at 9:15 p.m. Tickets are available from $75 to $250.
