May 28, 2015 - PRLog -- Cookology, leading recreational culinary school for kids and adults, announces that it has enhanced its award-winning summer kid’s program. With age ranges from 5-18 years, varying techniques, styles of cuisine, price points and discounts, the school’s new courses give parents the option to add some variety to their kids’ itinerary this summer.

Cookology, which is located in the Dulles Town Center, updated the course list for its summer cooking camps. The weekly courses train in kitchen safety, knife skills, world cuisines, French cuisine for appropriate ages and countless necessary culinary techniques. This year they’ve added a French pastry chef to their long list of culinary professionals who will teach a three-hour class for 8- to 11-year olds and 12- to 18-year olds on everything from éclairs to macaroons with some fun-filled recipes in between.

“The courses are designed to help children navigate and understand the world of cooking while learning to appreciate food and dishes from around the world…. Classes for 5-to 7-year olds are shorter and less intensive, whereas the classes for 12-to 18-year olds are held later in the day and are more like a ‘boot camp’…” states Maria Kopsidas, Founder and Owner of Cookology. “They learn everything from baking pastries to Greek, Spanish, Italian and French cuisine.”

Morning classes are from 9am-12pm for the 8-to 11-year old chefs, and classes for 12- to 18-year olds are held later in the day from 1pm to 4pm. Each course is taught by a professional, culinary trained chef, who instructs on everything from essential baking and pastry techniques to different ways of cooking, such as roasting, sautéing and many others. This allows pupils to not only learn essential food preparation concepts, but it equips them to prepare meals of varying themes and international cuisines.

This year, Cookology is adding a new 8- to 11-year old camp in the afternoon that is less intensive and concentrates on teaching a new skill. At two and a half hours, it’s a shorter course with a lower price point. While the more rigorous courses for 8- to 11-year olds and 12- to 18-year olds are five days long with three-hour sessions, the 5- to 7-year old camp lasts only three days and has two-hour sessions. Discounts are offered for siblings, but price points for the camps vary to accommodate age, skill and desired technique.

Upon completion of the camp, Cookology puts its students’ new culinary knowledge to the test in an “Iron Chef-style” mystery basket competition or a “Cupcake Wars-style” competition for the baking and pastry classes. Over the past two years, Cookology was selected for the Best in Families Award by Washington Parent Magazine for Best Kid’s Camps.  To learn more or view some of the course offerings, visit Cookology Kids’ Camps.
