NewLaw announces Rookwood SPUR & the PROP Appeal as its charities of the year

May 28, 2015 - PRLog -- NewLaw Solicitors, one of the leading legal practices in the UK, has chosen the Rookwood Spur charity and the PROP appeal as its charities of the year for 2015.

Last year the Cardiff based solicitors raised a record breaking £32,000 for its Charitable Fund, providing donations to a variety of local and national charities. The money raised this year will be used to help children, young people and families whose lives have been affected by acquired brain and spinal injuries.

The money raised in 2014 has been distributed to eighteen different organisations, which were individually nominated and deliberated at length by the Charity Committee. The selected charities included last year’s charity of the year, Child Brain Injury Trust, as well as Ty Hafan, Scotty’s Little Soldiers, Port Talbot Girls FC and St Mark’s Hospital Foundation.

Helen Molyneux, Chief Executive of NewLaw, said: "Rookwood Spur and the PROP appeal are renowned for changing and improving the lives of the people who spend a lot of time in spinal and neurological rehabilitation units. Through the work of our serious injury team, we understand the importance of the work these charities do and the importance of donations to charities and organisations in this field that rely on external financial support.

'We’re fortunate to have generous teams in our Cardiff, Bristol and Glasgow offices who are dedicated to giving up their time and money for a worthy cause.

'Members of staff have taken part in many races, cycled from Merthyr to Cardiff Bay and even bleached their hair! They are always thinking up new ways of raising money.”

Sue Elford, Chairperson of Rookwood SPUR, said: “We’re extremely grateful to NewLaw for adopting us as one of its charities of the year. The spinal injuries unit at Rookwood Hospital is one of only 12 designated units in the UK and Ireland and we’re so thankful to NewLaw for its support. We’re looking forward to working with the members of staff this year to help improve the lives of families recovering from serious injuries.”

All monies raised will once again be divided between both charities along with the NewLaw Charitable Fund, which was set up in 2013 to give NewLaw employees the opportunity to apply for funding for a cause close to their hearts.

James Bigg, ward manager and PROP appeal board member, said: “The PROP appeal supports the regional Neurosciences Specialist Rehabilitation Unit within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board with the main aim of improving the lives of people, who may spend a long amount of time in hospital. We’re looking forward to continuing to work with NewLaw Solicitors by raising a lot of money to provide surplus facilities for the patients and their families, such as washing machines, games consoles and televisions.”

NewLaw Solicitors is one of the leading legal practices in the country and has one of the largest, most experienced catastrophic injury teams in the UK.  Every year it helps thousands of injured people recover the compensation they deserve following life changing accidents, and raises thousands of pounds for the charities that work with its clients.
