THE NEW “STREET SHOTS” PHOTOGRAPHY PODCAST


Brooklyn, NY – May 26th, 2015 – Emmy nominated and award-winning photojournalist Ron Haviv shares his discovery of photography and touches on some of the highlights of his career.  In the last three decades Haviv has covered more than 25 conflicts and worked in over one hundred countries. One of the co-founder of the photo agency, VII, Haviv recently returned from a photography exhibit in Sarajevo (on the 20th anniversary of the conflict there). His images of the war in the former Yugoslavia have been used as evidence in the related war crimes tribunal.  The free-flowing interview touches on a range of issues including the new, multiplatform world of photojournalism today; the power of photography in the struggle for human rights; post-production ethics and guidelines and the challenges we all face as we seek to improve our capacity to speak in the language of images.  Non

“Street Shots” is a new bi-monthly photography podcast featuring the lively banter of two Brooklyn-based photographers, Antonio M. Rosario and Tom Martinez, founders of the educational network Switch to Manual (http://switchtomanual.com) (STM). Through educational workshops and photo tours, STM helps enthusiastic amateur photographers learn how to take better control of their cameras.  In each podcast episode, Tom and Antonio share secrets and easy-to-learn concepts to demystify the creative process and empower beginners to shoot like a pro. Using their backgrounds in street photography as a starting point, the two photographers offer the listener practical tips and artistic considerations that can be applied to almost any style or genre. In future episodes, Antonio and Tom will be adding interviews with working professional photographers and shows devoted to answering listener questions.

THE STM WORKSHOP: breaks down the basic concepts of shutter speed, aperture and ISO so the beginning photographer can review an image and make the necessary corrections. Our main workshop is held near the Brooklyn waterfront in Red Hook.  We also offer instructional photo walks in Green-Wood Cemetery, the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, Coney Island, the Bronx Zoo, and across the Brooklyn Bridge.

About the hosts:

Antonio M. Rosario: is a professional photographer and digital imaging specialist. A prolifically active stock-photographer since the early 1990s, his commercial photography is marketed through Getty, Tetra Images, iStockPhoto and Alamy. Antonio has also produced the official calendar of the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. He’s trained industry professionals, advanced amateurs and traditional film photographers as they transition to the digital realm. Tom Martinez: came to photography in the digital age when he picked up a point and shoot and began taking three hundred pictures a day for a year.  Since then he’s moved on to professional digital cameras which he’s used in Cuba, Honduras, Puerto Rico, New Orleans and the streets of New York City.
