Battery Power: Alzheimer’s Association, Orange County, Los Angeles Angels Strike Partnership

Preeminent organizations take the hill in duel against Alzheimer’s epidemic

IRVINE, Calif. - May 27, 2015 - PRLog -- Alzheimer’s Association, Orange County (AAOC) (http://www.alz.org/oc), the leading organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research, today announced a 2015 partnership with the Los Angeles Angels (http://losangeles.angels.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=ana). With more than 84,000 Orange County individuals currently living with Alzheimer’s, the partnership, which originally began in 2012, once again aligns two prominent organizations in the fight against a tragic disease.

Included in this year’s agreement, the iconic 230-foot sign at Angel Stadium will glow purple after every Angels victory in June – in honor of Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month. Additionally, one of AAOC’s three annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s events will be held at Angel Stadium on November 14.

“Our goal is to elevate awareness of Alzheimer’s disease so we can reach more Orange County families in need of free resources to help care for their loved ones,” said Jim McAleer, CEO and president of AAOC. “Partnering with a high-profile organization like the Angels elevates our visibility and allows us to serve more families, support more caregivers and raise critical funds to help us get closer to a world without Alzheimer’s.”

Locally the fourth-leading cause of death, Alzheimer’s currently cannot be prevented, slowed or cured and is greatly under diagnosed. By joining forces once again with the Los Angeles Angels – a respected and beloved community brand – AAOC will reach thousands of fans and encourage community support to help strikeout this devastating disease. The partnership also allows AAOC to share an important message of hope – for a cure – to millions of consumers through an AAOC concourse booth at home games, in-stadium advertising and on the “Big A,” and through special events.

“The relationship the Angels have maintained with Alzheimer’s Association, Orange County is a testament to our dedication to helping put an end to a disease which affects the lives of so many in our community,” said Dennis Kuhl, Angels Chairman. “My hope is when fans drive by our stadium on the 57 Freeway, they see a bold purple glow in our sea of red – and feel inspired to join an important movement. I’m proud to use our platform to bring awareness and touch more lives.”

AAOC currently offers a variety programs and services to assist those affected by Alzheimer’s including: 24/7 helpline; support groups; care consultation and coordination; family, caregiver and community education; linkage to community resources; trial match program; and research, information and funding. To serve Orange County’s diverse population, services are available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese and other languages. For more information on AAOC’s programs and services, all provided free of charge, please call the 24/7 helpline at 1-800-272-3900 or visit www.alz.org/oc.
