Based on an in-depth understanding of the diagnosis and test ordering process, Boston Interactive was able to not only design a visually stunning website for Athena Diagnostics, but create a digital tool that enhances the functionality and ordering processes of the company. Thorough user-experience research and testing revealed an opportunity for growth in both the “My Account” feature of the site and the search functionality. The “My Account” feature was redesigned with a user-friendly interface and additional functionality was applied to allow users to save their information for their next visit to the website. Boston Interactive also created and implemented condition guides that when paired with the “My Account” feature allow doctors to more easily follow testing paths and make diagnoses. In compliance with HIPAA regulations, the ordering process is not fulfilled on the website and no patient information is collected. Rather, once a doctor completes the ordering process a PDF is generated for them to send to the appropriate party.

To help users easily comb through the more than 500 tests offered by Athena, Boston Interactive completely rebuilt their database and implemented true faceted navigation with various filters and sorts. This facilitated navigation also offers side-by-side comparisons of tests to help doctors determine which option to choose. Boston Interactive built the website using the Kentico CMS to allow for easy content updates and management by the Athena Diagnostics team.
