Local Scouts Making a Difference in Southwest Florida

FORT MYERS, Fla. - May 26, 2015 - PRLog -- Local Boy and Girl Scouts across Southwest Florida are having an impact in their communities by collecting donations for Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida throughout the month of May. Girl Scouts Lee 11, 12, and 13 Service Unit and Boy Scouts of Southwest Florida are both collecting donations for Goodwill.

“I love showing these scouts, who are great kids, how easy it is to make an impact when you partner with Goodwill,” says Goodwill Commercial Donation Coordinator Buffy Hagood. “I get to show them how simply cleaning out your closest can help someone with a disability get a job.”

Donations collected will be sold in Goodwill’s 30 Retail & Donation Centers with the revenue generated going into programs like the Goodwill L.I.F.E. Academy, a tuition-free charter school for students with disabilities.

“It’s wonderful that these scouts have taken it upon themselves to be active members in our community,” says Goodwill spokesperson Madison Mitchell. “They are already impacting the lives of others and growing into strong leaders.”

May 31^st is the final day of the drive. The Troops will be competing to see which one can collect the most donations. One Girl Scout Troop and one Boy Scout Troop will be picked as winners and earn a pizza party. All scouts that participated in the drive will receive a Scouting for Good patch for their contributions.

“It’s so empowering for these kids to learn about teamwork and collaboration,” says Hagood. “They see how much good we can accomplish together.”
