Follow on Google News | Local Scouts Making a Difference in Southwest FloridaBoy and Girl Scouts collecting donations for Goodwill throughout the month of May
“I love showing these scouts, who are great kids, how easy it is to make an impact when you partner with Goodwill,” says Goodwill Commercial Donation Coordinator Buffy Hagood. “I get to show them how simply cleaning out your closest can help someone with a disability get a job.” Donations collected will be sold in Goodwill’s 30 Retail & Donation Centers with the revenue generated going into programs like the Goodwill L.I.F.E. Academy, a tuition-free charter school for students with disabilities. “It’s wonderful that these scouts have taken it upon themselves to be active members in our community,” says Goodwill spokesperson Madison Mitchell. “They are already impacting the lives of others and growing into strong leaders.” May 31st is the final day of the drive. The Troops will be competing to see which one can collect the most donations. One Girl Scout Troop and one Boy Scout Troop will be picked as winners and earn a pizza party. All scouts that participated in the drive will receive a Scouting for Good patch for their contributions. “It’s so empowering for these kids to learn about teamwork and collaboration,” Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida is committed to serving people with disabilities and disadvantages by providing life-changing opportunities to achieve independence. Revenue generated by Goodwill’s 30 Southwest Florida Retail & Donation Centers is used to support these programs.
