Immunization Desicions Spark Debate & Health Concerns

By: Tara Miranda

May 25, 2015 - PRLog -- Due to the recent outbreak of measles, the big question for many people is whether or not to immunize their children. Parents throughout time have always wanted to do what is best for their children. Parents utilize car seats, baby gates and many other safeguards to protect their kids, but there are parents who choose not to vaccinate their children and receive religious exemptions. There are also children with medical exemptions that physically cannot receive vaccinations due to a compromised immune system, such as leukemia.

Unvaccinated children can potentially spread disease to babies that are too young to be vaccinated and may pose a threat to children with medical exemptions. Unvaccinated children may also be more susceptible to dangerous and deadly diseases. If there is an outbreak of a particular disease, public schools and daycares could exclude the unvaccinated children from school. There is a chance they could even be quarantined during outbreaks, even if they show no signs of having the disease.

Should there be better guidelines on giving restrictions for vaccinations? We may be putting our babies and elderly at risk and also those with immune deficiencies, such as cancer patients. We have worked so hard over the years on eliminating diseases and we do not want them to stage a comeback. Vaccination protects others you care about; family, friends and all those with medical illnesses.
