“Kickstarting” gender equality with ethical, eco-friendly, unisex dungarees

Liberating little people one piece of ethical, ecofriendly, bright and colourful clothing at a time! Say no to gender stereotyping.

COLWYN BAY, Wales - May 25, 2015 - PRLog -- Gecko Clothing is taking a stand against gender segregation through their latest Kickstarter campaign - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gecko-clothing/gecko-clothings-funkyethical-organic-and-unisex-du.

Gecko feel that there is so much more to a child than their gender, and pigeon holing them based on archaic stereotyping is not progressive to gender equality.

A hot topic at the moment are similar Kickstarter campaigns aimed for girls, such as the American companies Princess Awesome and Budding Stem that wanted more inspiring designs for girls clothing.

Gecko Clothing’s views are more inline with Amazons recent changes to their search and categorising options, removing ‘girls’ and ‘boys’ segregation for their toys in opt of unisex. “We tell our girls that they can be anybody and do anything, yet when we take our budding Palaeontologist to the toy or clothing shop they have to shop in the boys aisle for dinosaur related products. Unless you want to pay the pink tax and believe it or not, not every girl loves pink!” This comment comes from a woman with bright bold pink hair, because there’s nothing wrong with pink.

It’s about having options, options available to both genders.

“Why should my sons be judged because they want to play with hair, or dolls, or kitchens?” said Emma Davidson CO‐founder of Gecko Clothing. Gecko are building a range of clothing that one day will extend to adult clothing on the principle that everybody deserves bright clothing in a range of colours beyond pinks and blues.

The founders of Gecko believe that this problem is by no means limited to girls. With 2 young boys and a daughter the husband and wife team see both sides:

“I have always been frustrated by the colours and designs available for men. This was further exasperated by the birth of our son. I felt despondent by the rails of blues and greys available for boys. The options became even more depressing as my son reached 3years old and the colour became more drab!” said Ryan Davidson cofounder of Gecko Clothing Gecko Clothing are calling to end defining a child’s likes and interests by their gender and allow children to be children.

“Let’s liberate our little people!” Gecko Clothing’s crowdfunding campaign is live on Kickstarter closing on the 24th June and their goal is to reach their £13,000 target to create more unisex and inspiring clothing that allows, celebrates and inspires children to be children.
