BHEL commissions 82.5 MW Hydro Set in Uttarakhand

BANGALORE, India - May 23, 2015 - PRLog -- Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has successfully commissioned the first unit of 82.5 MW at the upcoming Shrinagar Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in Uttarakhand. The greenfield hydro electric project consisting of four units of 82.5 MW each is being set up by Alaknanda Hydro Power Corporation Limited (GVK Group). The project is located on the Alaknanda River (near the town of Shrinagar in Pauri Garhwal District of Uttarakhand), a major tributary of the Ganga River, a perennial river in Uttarakhand. The project is designed to utilise the waters of River Alaknanda by way of a diversion dam. Power generation from Shrinagar HEP is likely to result in reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. BHEL’s scope of work in the project includes design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of 4 units of 82.5 MW Francis Turbines, Generators, Static Excitation System, Generator Transformer, Unit Transformer, Station Transformer, Main Inlet Valve, Digital Governors, Control & Monitoring System (SCADA), Busduct, associated station auxiliaries, 400 kV Switchyard and Electrical & Mechanical Balance of Plant (BOP). BHELis presently executing hydro electric projects of around 4,000 MW which are under various stages of implementation. Other hydro power projects under execution by BHEL in Uttarakhand include Lata Tapovan HEP (3×57 MW), Tapovan Vishnugarh HEP (4×130 MW), Vyasi HEP (2X60 MW) and Vishnugarh Pipalkoti HEP (4×111 MW). So far, more than 500 hydro generating sets of various ratings have been contracted onBHEL in India and abroad, with a cumulative capacity of more than 26,000 MW. Of these, equipment for about 5,000 MW generating capacity has been contracted outside India.
