ASHLAND, Ore. - May 22, 2015 - PRLog -- New Folk, Americana five-member band, The Critical Roots, releases 1st EP CD.  All of the tunes were written by Seth Charles, lead vocals and acoustic guitar as an expression of his experiences on his journey in the world.

Critical Roots was born of friendship. Before any of the members played together they were all living on Critical Roots farm in Gold Hill, Oregon. What started as a community jam ended up becoming The Critical Roots band, and it wasn't long before they were playing shows in Ashland, Bend, Salem and Eugene, Oregon.

“We are excited about this original album full of “soulful and melodious” tunes,” says Seth Charles, singer/songwriter and leader of the group.  “We have been very well received in the Pacific Northwest and many of our fans demanded an album…so why not.”

Two of the members, Seth Charles and Dylan Works, drummer come from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where they met and went to college. The other three members Kevin Di Leo, keyboard and back-up vocals, Leslie Seckelman, flutist and back-up vocals, and Dashiel McClary, violinist; all come from California.   Additional musicians that collaborated on The Critical Root’s include Mathew Tress on drums and percussion and Marc Turull on bass guitar.

Songs include:

·       Simple Things:  Leslie, Kevin and Seth sing of the simple part of life like “apples from a tree, like you and me…and I don’t need no one to tell me how to be.”  This folk song has influences of Bob Dylan.

·       Love Grows: Dash and Leslie perform a flute and violin duet in the first part of the song and sing of  “I think I know where love grows deep down within your soul.”  This love song has influence with the Pop music culture.

·       Build Me Up: Lead singer, Seth, sings of  “I will be your man, build me up…”  This easy-listening song has Jack Johnson influences.

·       City Boy:  Features all members plus Marc Turull, blending harmonies with lyrics of a city boy wanting to get back to the country life.  Reminiscent of Wood Guthrie songs.

·       One Arm Consciousness: Kevin, Leslie and Seth sing harmonies telling of “walking around with one arm consciousness…it was always there just tied behind your back…” Reminiscent of such funk artists as Parliament.
