7-10 SPLIT: MY JOURNEY AS AMERICA’S WHITEST BLACK KID RELEASE

“Prior to his assassination, I’d never heard of Dr. King, for all I knew he could have been a physician at the hospital where Dad worked. I felt dumb for the first time in my life."

LAS VEGAS, NV May 19, 2015 – Author, actor, entrepreneur and travel expert Michael Gordon Bennett just released 7-10 Split: My Journey As America’s Whitest Black Kid. This compelling memoir examines the life of a military brat juxtaposed against the ugliness of America’s original sin.

Currently available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle, this book chronicles the troubles of growing up in a racially polarized America the author knew little about. His story is chalked full of life experiences that collectively gives him a unique perspective on the destructive twin forces of bigotry and racism and how those influences have the potential to destroy an otherwise great and powerful nation.

His story begins in Madrid, Spain during the height of America’s Civil Rights Movement where the author lived for three years thanks to his father’s military career. By the time he returned to the United States, Bennett thought himself more Spanish than black American.

After four years of life in northern Maine, a young Michael Bennett, age 11, was introduced to the inner city, poverty, and bigotry for the first time. His previous world, as he found out, was not based in reality, but on a unique set of circumstances that left him ill equipped for what lay ahead.

Bennett and his family eventually transferred to the Deep South where he, and his fellow military brats participated in the first year of “forced busing” in the name of school desegregation. Four years later, the family would move once again where he would become the “only,” the only African American male in his graduating class.

The equal mix of love and hatred he experienced from those around him left him confused, and at times ostracized and alone. His ignorance of all things black and white proved his undoing leading to a period of homelessness after high school graduation.

Michael is available for interviews and appearance. For booking presentations, speaking appearances media interviews and book signings email contact@michaelgordonbennett.com or call 702-343-3906.
