May 20, 2015 - PRLog -- Snell & Wilmer has been awarded “Law Firm of the Year” by the Colorado Lawyers Committee.

During 2014, 20 attorneys in the Denver office of Snell & Wilmer participated on six Colorado Lawyers Committee projects. Ten attorneys volunteered frequently at Denver Legal Night including Jason Brinkley, Chris Diedrich, Andrea Fitzgerald, Brian Gaffney, Bethany Gorlin, Mike Lindsay, Neal McConomy, Sarah Mead, Mike Strand and Jessica Yates. They provided legal advice, information and referrals to individuals and families who cannot afford legal services. Snell & Wilmer has made a commitment to provide two attorney volunteers at each Centro San Juan Diego Denver Legal Night.

Eric Kintner volunteered on the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid Appeals Task Force, which assists individuals who have been denied Medicaid benefits or Affordable Care Act subsidies.

Mike Lindsay and Colin Trottnow worked on cases referred from the Immigration Task Force’s DACA training to help individuals apply for the Deferred Action for Children’s Arrivals program; when approved, DACA applicants, all of whom came to the United States as children, become eligible for work authorization.

Jessica Yates co-chaired the Mental Health Task Force and the Health Care for Community Corrections Task Force which is working to assure that individuals who reside in halfway houses have access to medical care through Medicaid or the Affordable Care Act. Ginny Olmstead also participated on the project.

Jim Kilroy serves as the firm’s representative on the Board of Directors.

This is the fourth year in a row that Snell & Wilmer has been nominated for “Law Firm of the Year” by the Colorado Lawyers Committee and the firm’s first win. In addition to volunteering for the Colorado Lawyers Committee, the Denver office has also provided pro bono services to Colorado Health Network, Inc., the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, as well as to numerous other matters on behalf of indigent individuals.

Founded in 1978, the Colorado Lawyers Committee is a nonpartisan consortium of 59 Colorado law firms dedicated to creating and increasing opportunities for children, the poor and other disadvantaged communities through advocacy, negotiation and litigation. The lawyers who donate their time through the Lawyers Committee focus primarily on major public policy issues and systemic changes rather than representation of individuals. This past year, 800 volunteers donated more than $2.2 million worth of time to Colorado Lawyers Committee projects. The Colorado Lawyers Committee is affiliated with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law in Washington D.C. and similar organizations in seven other cities throughout the country.
