By: Starchild Enterprises As a Frankie Manning Ambassador of Lindy Hop, Traci Bartlow, founder of Starchild Dance, will be teaching and performing at Seattle’s Camp Jitterbug, May 24- 25, and Montreal Swing Riot, July 3-5, during the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the largest festival of its kind. Ms. Bartlow will conduct her Hip Hop B-Love workshop at both festivals, as well as Illadelph Legends Dance Festival, June 25-28 in Oakland, CA. Dancers will be trained in Hip-Hop’s roots, including traditional African, 1920’s Jazz, and social dances of the funk and soul music eras. The excitement surrounding Starchild Dance is over its rare, immersive “dance through time” experience, showcasing African roots and nearly 100 years of urban dances dancing together. From Lindy Hop to Hip Hop,audiences are enlightened to the authentic Jazz and Social Dances that rose from the Black experience of the 1920’s and gave birth to today’s urban dance styles. The following is Starchild Dance’s 2015 Summer Line-up, all open to the public: · Camp Jitterbug, Seattle, WA (May 42 – 25), Performing and instructing Hip Hop B-Love workshop; · 37th Annual San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival in San Francisco, CA (June 6-7), Performing; · Illadelph Legends Dance Festival in Oakland, CA (June 26), Instructing Hip hop B-Love Workshop; · Montreal Swing Riot, Montreal, Quebec (July 3-5), Performing and teaching Hip Hop B-Love workshop · NYC’s Summer Stage in Ney York (July 17 -23), Performing and teaching workshop ### Oakland, CA native, Traci Bartlow is a sought-after dancer, lecturer, and choreographer with over 20 years’ experience teaching dance. Using African, Jazz and Hip Hop dance as a base for her choreography, her credits include the jazz/opera “The Sisyphus Syndrome” by Amiri Baraka; New York Hip Hop Theater Festival; and Illadelph Legends Dance Festival in Philadelphia. In 2011, Ms. Bartlow was honored with the Frankie Manning Ambassador of Lindy Hop award. She has served as consultant and guest teacher for Lorraine Hansberry Theater in San Francisco, Herrang Dance Camp in Sweden, B-Boy Summit in Los Angeles, and guest faculty for UC Davis and UC Berkeley dance departments.
