Dickinson has announced the hiring of Joe Giunta as the next director of athletics and chair of physical education. Giunta brings a wealth of experience and a strong background in athletic administration, having served in similar capacities at Neumann University, Cabrini College and Temple University.

Giunta comes to Carlisle from Temple, where he has been the senior associate athletic director for sports administration since 2012. He previously served as the Owls’ associate athletic director for sports administration from 2003 to 2008, when he accepted the position of director of athletics and recreation at Cabrini College.

At Temple, Giunta was responsible for ensuring that student-athletes were given the administrative support and resources necessary to be academically and athletically successful, and to ensure that all operations were conducted within university, conference, and NCAA rules. During his tenure he oversaw football, men's basketball, men’s and women's cross country, women's track & field, men's and women's tennis and field hockey. In addition, he was responsible for overseeing the athletic training, equipment, facilities, and strength & conditioning departments.

While at Cabrini, Giunta managed a staff of 20 full and part-time employees, 16 varsity teams, club sports and recreation activities, and an active community health and fitness center. During Giunta's first year, the Cavaliers captured all three Colonial States Athletic Conference President’s Cups, which are awarded annually to the men's, women's and overall athletic programs with the highest competitive percentage rating obtained from championship and regular season play. Over the remaining three years of Giunta's tenure, Cabrini captured two more President's Cups and never finished lower than third in any category.

Giunta graduated from Neumann University in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in communications and from Ohio University in 1997 with a master’s degree in sports administration and facility management. In addition to his work at Cabrini and Temple, Giunta also has served as the director of athletics at St. Edward High School in Ohio and director of athletics at Neumann.

Giunta is excited about the opportunity to return to Division III athletics and the commitment that Dickinson has made to develop and maintain a strong balance between academics and athletics. “As a former Division III student-athlete, and as an administrator at this level, I believe strongly in the appropriate balance between academics, community service, personal and family time, and athletics,” says Giunta. Lettering in both men's basketball and tennis, he was inducted into the inaugural class of the Neumann University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996.

Giunta will start on June 24 and will be joined in Carlisle by his wife Colleen, their twin sons, Gavin and Braydon, and son Michael.
