Follow on Google News | Dr. Michelle Carter-Scott & Vince Carter Honored for their Community ServiceBy: Council on Aging (COA) “The Ritchey Award is given to a couple or a family that has demonstrated a legacy of dedication and service to our community, which Dr. Michelle Carter-Scott and Vince Carter have certainly shown year after year,” said event organizer and Living Gifts Foundation Director Priscilla Chanfrau. “Their philanthropic endeavors are endless and they have given tirelessly to several organizations in our area,” she added. The event was held at the Daytona 500 Club inside Daytona International Speedway on Friday, May 15th. Over four hundred attendees raised funds to benefit needy senior citizens in our community. Brown & Brown was this year’s Presenting Sponsor. Living Gifts Foundation board member Nancy Lohman served as the evenings emcee, and proclamations were presented by Volusia County Chair Jason Davis, Daytona Beach Mayor Derrick Henry, and Ormond Beach Mayor Ed Kelley. Michelle Carter-Scott graciously accepted the honor as Vince was playing in the NBA playoffs. He spoke to the crowd via a pre-recorded video message, and the crowd sent him a good luck video via text. His response back during the event and his message was read out loud. Dr. Michelle Carter-Scott is Executive Director of Vince Carter’s Embassy of Hope Foundation, Chief Executive Officer of Visions in Flight, Inc., and Chief Operating Officer of Flight XV, LLC. Vince Carter attended Mainland High School, donating $2.5 million to the school for a new gym. His Embassy of Hope Foundation assists children and their families through scholarships and Kai’s Corner provides for children with clothing needs. He is a professional basketball player, currently playing for the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA. In 2010, the pair opened the Vince Carter Sanctuary (which houses Stewart-Marchman- Past honorees include: Gale Lemerand & Jill Simpkins, Betty Jane France & Bill France, Jr., Larry & Joan Kelly, Hyatt & Cici Brown, Mori & Forough Hosseini, Joe & Barbara Petrock, Bert & Julie Reames, Jimmy & Phannye Huger, Lesa France Kennedy & Brian France, and Glenn & Connie Ritchey. Last year, through donations and grants, COA served 1,558 clients, delivered over 119,200 meals to homebound clients through “Meals-on- COA (Council on Aging) promotes healthy, independent living through caring, competent and compassionate services. COA is the administrator for Meals-On-Wheels, as well as local Senior Centers across Volusia County. COA handles Medicare, Medicaid and government grant services, as well as fee-for-service programs. COA also provides relief for caregivers through our Respite Care programs for family members, caretakers and the loved ones of our clients. The Living Gifts Foundation is a separate entity of COA, tasked with raising funds and managing COA investments.
