Prominent Litigators Launch Boutique Firm

ST. LOUIS - May 18, 2015 - PRLog -- Attorneys Richard Elias, Greg Gutzler, and Tamara Spicer have announced the formation of Elias Gutzler Spicer LLC, a litigation boutique with a national practice focused on complex, high-stakes civil litigation. They were previously partners together at a leading plaintiffs’ firm, Korein Tillery, and a national defense firm, Husch Blackwell. Elias also served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of California.

The three attorneys bring an established record of success in high-profile cases to their new firm. As a federal prosecutor, Elias led the investigation into JPMorgan’s securitization of billions of dollars of defective mortgages in the time leading up to the 2007 financial crisis. The misconduct that he uncovered during that investigation spearheaded a record-setting $13 billion settlement in 2013, the then-largest recovery ever obtained against a single entity. This work earned Elias the Department of Justice’s 2014 Attorney General Award for Distinguished Service.

Gutzler and Spicer were part of the trial team that won a $1 billion judgment against DuPont on behalf of Monsanto in 2012. It was the largest verdict in Missouri history and the fourth largest patent infringement jury verdict in U.S. history. Most recently, the three attorneys have worked closely together representing a United States agency in lawsuits across the country seeking to recover billions of dollars in losses from global investment banks for their sale of defective mortgaged-backed securities to credit unions.
