By: LAHAF, INC (Anchorage, Alaska) - LAHAF, Inc. and Global Block will host the first “All Tribes Hip Hop Cultural Heritage Summit” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 23 at Begich Middle School. The summit will offer a unique opportunity for Alaskan youth to experience the cultural heritage and creative traditions of Hip Hop while discovering new ways to express their own cultural heritages. Summit programming will include interactive discussions, creative breakout workshops, performances, public art, giveaways and more. The summit will be led by internationally renowned cultural bearer George Martinez Jr. and master artist B-Boy legend The Real Alien Ness with the support of local artists and community supporters including DJ Reggie Ward, DJ Victamone, DJ River Flows, D1, Snap One, Samuel John, Kima Hamilton, Bisco, Mao Tosi (AK Pride), Donteh DeVoe (The Solution Project) and more. Hip Hop as a tool for youth engagement has a successful history in Alaska, providing creative opportunities and inspiration to many from the city to rural Alaska. Participants will gain greater cross-cultural understanding, increased self-awareness and be inspired to explore new ways of expressing their own cultural heritages while valuing others. The "All Tribes Hip Hop Cultural Heritage Summit" by the Rasmuson Foundation’s Youth Cultural Heritage Fund, which is administered, under contract, by the Alaska State Council on the Arts.
