Follow on Google News | Rescuing students by the Millions and parent’s money by the BillionsHelping people answer the question "What do I want to do with my life?"
By: uwannadu Washington DC: A New DC area startup is rescuing 40 million high school and colleges students struggling to the big question “What do I want to do with my life?” The company is called uwannadu as in what do “you wanna do?”. It is not just students who need help. Founder and CEO - Chris Hodges says “At every talk I give, a parent, teacher or employer will quietly ask “Umm.. am I too old for this site?” Hodges politely smiles. “Uwannadu is only for those ages 12 to 92…anyone looking for what they want to do”. The nation has a career crisis. Work is changing and we are not keeping up. Seventy percent* of workers don’t like their jobs, college student debt exceeds $1.4T and the dropout rate is nearly 50%. When people don’t know what they want to do, and don’t prepare, they end up unhappy and misfit in the wrong jobs. This means deby, dropouts and dissatisfaction. “My students are desperate to find something they way to do and they have a big pile of debt making the pressure pretty unbearable. The dirty secret is that too few colleges really care about the student on the way out the door but the student does and so do their parents.” Career Center Director - Mid-Atlantic University Uwannadu helps by showing what careers are actually like with the media people prefer. The site uses a unique five-minute interest quiz, then adds infographics, data and video interviews of working professionals to highlight career reality. The site includes required education, related college and employer profiles, and open job listings, all in one spot. Hodges’ excitement is palpable – “We are the only site to bring this all together in a way people love. Your life and the world in general will be better when you know what uwannadu. We are helping make that happen right now.” Uwannadu, a free service, is a founder-funded startup. They have just launched a crowdfunding campaign at http://uwannadu.com. Funds will go directly toward adding more video interviews and diverse content.
