Sperm Donor Offspring find their Father through DNA

         Not knowing her biological Father because he was a sperm donor in 1964, Patricia Issberner set out on an exhaustive search for the unknowable: Who was this anonymous sperm donor who was contracted in medical school, to donate sperm anonymously, never to know the brood he would one day create?

         Joining support groups online when the Internet was just born helped put her in contact with the leading members on the quest to open the medical records and to release the information to the “sperm donor offspring” so that they could know their medical and ethnical background and everything about their sperm donor Fathers. After all, they were not part of this contract between their infertile parents and the doctors who conspired with other doctors to use the sperm of mostly only doctors themselves, who where in medical school, or residents. Some doctors took shortcuts and used their own sperm. In 1964, only fresh sperm was used, and doctors in University Medical Schools often targeted easily reached medical students, interns and residents.

         Patricia, who is a lawyer in New York, and was part of the support group, and received a phone call in 2000 that would change her life. The View was to have a segment about our topic, and the person arranged to appear backed out at the last minute.          The producers made it sound like a coffee table talk to Patricia, nothing to get stressed about, though it was a live audience and a live TV show. Additionally, those “hosts” had ear buds so the producers could cut in and order them to ask specific questions or go to a different topic. All I wanted to do was fulfill my duties to get the medical records available to all donor offspring, and try to reach my donor Father.Shania Twain was their with her entorauge.          Due to DNA technology, and after joining www.familytreedna.com and www.23andme.com, I found many brothers and sisters that were from the same donor Father. One distant cousin was a genetic genealogist and he worked diligently and found our donor Father, who had unfortunately passed away. He was indeed a physician, and donated sperm many, many times. Now I have my ethic history. I am not an “only” child; I have nine brothers and sisters that are wonderful. Donor offsprings, all of us on these websites, never thought we would find our Father but we did. Middle age and dealing with old paper medical records that were destroyed didn’t matter, science did.
