L&T Infotech sponsors Mini Science Center to Mumbai Municipal school

MUMBAI, India - May 14, 2015 - PRLog -- “To Hear is to forget, to see is to remember, to do is to understand”.

Taking this concept forward, L&T Infotech, under its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program ‘1Step’, has set up a Mini Science Center at IB Patel School, Goregaon. The Mini Science Center was inaugurated by Mr. Rishikesh Joshi, Head, Corporate Services; along with the Municipal Corporator, Mr. Rajan Padhye. The objective of this initiative is to inculcate the interest and reasoning of students in basic science concepts.

Mr. Ashutosh Pandit, Director, STEM Learning Pvt. Ltd. (L&T Infotech’s partner in this project); Ms. Nisha Yadav, Administrative Officer from the P South Ward; Ms. Ujwala Sankhe, Beat Officer from the same ward; and Ms. Aruna Ranganathan, CSR Officer, L&T Infotech; were also part of this event.

Mini Science Center includes 60 interactive maths & science working models/ exhibits explaining concepts from textbooks like Newton’s Disk, Periscopes, Archimedes Screw, Infinity tunnel, Pythagoras theorem, etc.  Mr. Joshi emphasized on the importance of these products, which will easily help school students in understanding the basics of what they learn in the textbooks. 1Step has ensured 2 years training to the teachers by the Project partner- STEM Learning Pvt Ltd. The Mini Science Center would also enable the school students to practically feel various science models so that the learning becomes enjoyable and rewarding experience. This Mini Science Center would benefit around 1600 students.

L&T Infotech initiated this drive by sponsoring the development of the Mini Science Center. It was announced that the company’s CSR volunteers, who are actively involved in other CSR activities, will participate in monitoring the students and teachers on weekends on the various science experiments. This project is also initiated and supported by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) Educational Department.

Mr. Sharad Singh, Assistant Teacher, IB Patel Municipal School, thanked L&T Infotech for their efforts and said that the exhibits would help students understand in-depth about the importance of different laws of science while studying science as a subject.

Mr. Padhye thanked L&T Infotech and MCGM for their contribution and expressed his wish for inclusion of many such supporting initiatives in future for the students’ development.

Role of Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) in setting-up Mini Science Center:
- Prepare the training schedule for municipal schools
- Arrangement of space and other necessary infrastructure for Mini Science Centers
- Ensure that teachers attend scheduled teacher-training program from time-to-time
- The CSR Cell of MCGM to be responsible for smooth implementation and monitoring of the project

Road Ahead
Keeping up the momentum, L&T Infotech has already progressed towards set-up of another Mini Science Center in one of the municipal schools in Mulund, Mumbai. It is also looking forward for doing similar projects in other locations.
