By: Dukes Foundation Corporation Atlanta, GA. 5/13/15 – Twenty one young men from Atlanta were accepted by Universities, Colleges and the Armed Services. This announcement was made at a ceremony in South Atlanta last week to congratulate the Dukes Foundation Scholars. The organization responsible for guiding the future of these young men is Dukes Foundation Corporation. A number of the new college entrants secured scholarships, some with full ride. The 2015 Mentee Seniors Class will join twenty nine mentees who entered college last year from the Foundation’s mentoring program. Two of the now over 50 College enrolled Mentees are Gates Millennium Scholars with over three million dollars in scholarship. One is interning this summer at Boeing. An earlier college entrant is completing final year in engineering. In a written message, the President of the Atlanta City Council, Hon. Ceasar Mitchell expressed congratulations to the senior class of mentees. He also noted; “having completed the program, these young men have demonstrated fortitude and the ability to transform into remarkable young leaders.” A traditional passing of the torch from the outgoing Senior Mentees was conducted under the watchful eyes of retired corporate executive and senior Mentor, Mr. Richard E. Williams who provided reflection of the Foundation’s mentoring program. The festive occasion was attended by many parents and supporters of The Dukes Foundation including Dr. John Johnson, M.D., Dr. Brittany Hickson, M.D., Dr. James Brown, Chair of Department of Science at Morehouse College, Ms. Eshe’ P. Collins, Atlanta School Board Member, Ms. April Williams, Public Affairs Manager, Atlanta Hawks accompanied by her husband, Ms. Robin Lattimore, Recording Artist, Mr. Joshua Burrow, Stem Program Partnership Coordinator, Mrs. Louisa Williams, Magnolia Chapter of Links Inc., Ms. Cassie Nelson, President of Clarendon County Education Office Professionals and Mr. Derrick Sandifer, a Mentee emeritus and Law School candidate accompanied by his wife Jasmine Marie Sandifer. In expressing appreciation to supporters of the youth mentoring program, Mr. Horace Dukes, Founder & Chief Executive Officer recognized Mr. Solon Patterson, Chairman of the Patterson Family Foundation who was represented by Ms. Lisa Hare, Mr. Jamerian Myles, Owner/ Operator of Chick Fil A, Cleveland Ave Store, The Principals of The South Atlanta Educational Complex, Mrs. Phyllis Ivory, Manager of Wal Mart, Union City and Mr. Terrence Rhymes, General Manager, Home Depot – Store 0123 at Jonesboro Road. The Board of Directors, Advisors and Administrators of the Dukes Foundation was represented by Dr. Kathleen Hall, Mr. Ian Ash, Mr. Frank McCullough, Mr. Jose Thompson, Mr. Irvin Raglin and Mr. Andrew Gordon, Coordinator of the Event was Dr. Thomas Gosha.
