Follow on Google News | PediaPlex Engages Community for Autism Awareness MonthPediaPlex, a collaborative care, all-inclusive, therapeutic and diagnostic center that treats children with a variety of disorders and disabilities, participated in a series of awareness events in the Dallas area in recognition of "Autism Awareness."
By: PediaPlex Children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and their families will be able to explore the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the April 25 “Play for All: Sensory Friendly Morning” event. During those hours, the museum will be closed to the general public, allowing parents to make connections with other ASD families and to investigate available therapeutic resources. Attendance at $5 per child and $8 per adult will be limited to 250 guests. Reservations are available by calling 817-255-9300 or online at callcenter@fwmsh.org. In May, PediaPlex will take part in two events with the local education community. Representatives from the organization will provide resource information at the Community Resource Fair to be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at Steele Accelerated High School in Roanoke. The next week, on Friday, May 15, PediaPlex will provide lunch and a tour of the facility for 26 Junior Associate Counselors from Parkwood Hill Intermediate School. The students, from fifth and sixth grade classes, serve as mentors for other children. The Junior Associate Counselors will have an opportunity to see a presentation on various aspects of professional services offered at PediaPlex. “We are always eager to participate in community events,” said Sonia Kirkpatrick, founder of PediaPlex. “Activities like these serve as reminders that awareness requires year-round involvement. We want to reach out the to help children and families affected by a variety of disorders, and sharing our experience and resources at events like these can make a big difference to people who sometimes feel overwhelmed by their situation.” PediaPlex, founded by Kirkpatrick in 2012 after her personal journey with her oldest daughter, who suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome, ADHD and dyspraxia, is a leader in pediatric behavioral health.
