Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Day at the Massachusetts State Capital

Members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., from around the state of Massachusetts, visit the state capital to discuss programs and issues of importance with state legislators.

BOSTON - May 11, 2015 - PRLog -- In 1989, the National Social Action Commission of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. instituted Delta Days in the Nation's Capital. This annual legislative conference includes legislative briefings and issue forums. Featured speakers include key policy makers, members of the United States Congress, Congressional staff members, and national policy experts.

On May 27, 2015 alumnae and collegiate chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc will visit the Massachusetts State Capital, to continue this legacy on the state level.  Briefings on legislative issues which impact the African-American community; panel discussions to learn about the law-making process and discussion on current bills will be the highlights of the day.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded in 1913 on the campus of Howard University. Today Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has over 300,000 members and more than 1000 chapters worldwide. The Sorority uses its Five-Point Programmatic Thrust of economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement to create its national programs. There are seven chapters of the sorority serving the state of Massachusetts. For over seventy years, Boston Alumnae Chapter, has served the Metropolitan Boston area. The Norfolk Plymouth Area Alumnae Chapter provides services to cities and towns in the following South Shore counties: Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Nantucket, Norfolk and Plymouth.The South Middlesex County Alumnae Chapter service areas include Ashland, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Marlborough, Natick, Sherborn, Sudbury, and Wayland. The Springfield Alumnae Chapter serves cities in their metropolitan area. The Iota Chapter, founded in 1921 is a city-wide chapter currently comprised of the following schools: Boston University, Boston College, Simmons College, Northeastern University, and Berklee College of Music. The Xi Tau Chapter has proudly served Cambridge and the surrounding communities. The chapter hails from the eight schools of Babson College, Bentley University, Brandeis University, Harvard University, Lesley University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tufts University, and Wellesley College. Pi Iota Springfield City-Wide Chapter also serves the city of Springfield and neighboring communities.
