By: MAPMECHANICS This enhanced integration will be unveiled at this year’s Microlise Transport Conference, which takes place at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry on 20 May. For the first time this year, Mapmechanics will have a display stand (no 12) at this increasingly important event in the transport and logistics calendar. Over one thousand delegates are expected to attend. Routing and scheduling systems are often used in conjunction with telematics and vehicle tracking systems such as those produced by Microlise – for instance, to deliver scheduling information to the driver’s electronic manifest or navigation system, or to compare real-world journeys with those that were scheduled. This is called PvA analysis (“planned versus actual”) in Microlise terms, and is part of the Microlise Journey Management Solution. However, without close integration it may be necessary to transfer scheduling data between systems on a manual or semi-automated basis. Now Truckstops has an integrated facility that allows users to send scheduling data automatically straight into the Microlise system. Mapmechanics and Microlise already have customers in common, including for instance solid fuel supplier CPL Distribution. Deliveries are scheduled with Truckstops, and the details of each route including order information are transferred wirelessly to Intermec rugged handheld computers carried by the drivers. Truckstops, which is developed and marketed by Mapmechanics, is one of the world’s leading routing and scheduling applications, and is used widely in Britain, America and numerous other markets, both for day-to-day dynamic scheduling of varying deliveries and for fixed-route scheduling, strategic route modelling and bid preparation. Truckstops is becoming increasingly popular in the world of home delivery, taking in its stride the need for tight delivery time windows and varying delivery times. The latest version makes it easier than ever to prioritise specific deliveries, or tag some deliveries as requiring special handling or refrigeration. It is also very well suited to long-distance trunking and tramping operations. It has multi-depot, multi-day delivery capability, and can handle deliveries and collections on the same journey. The Microlise integration is just one of a range of enhancements to Truckstops that will be on show at the conference. The current version makes it easier than ever for users to set up, apply and manage a range of configuration options and transfer data in and out of the system. As standard, Truckstops is delivered with specific roads speeds applying to every road link and varying according to truck type. Users can also edit the system, applying call times and time and distance information from sources such as the tracking data collected by Microlise. It is also now possible to vary speeds globally to take account of inclement weather or major traffic problems. Mapmechanics has been working steadily on an integration programme involving a variety of third-party systems such as those from Microlise, and the latest version of Truckstops also makes it even easier to export routes conveniently in Excel spreadsheet format.
