AGOURA HILLS, Calif. - May 8, 2015 - PRLog -- Author Claire Dorotik-Nana, LMFT, is not only a survivor, but she knows a thing or two about coping with trauma.

In 2000, her father was brutally murdered, and her mother was eventually convicted of the crime and later incarcerated for life. During the horrific ordeal, Dorotik-Nana herself was accused of the murder by her mother’s attorney. But the strong-willed Dorotik-Nana endured the chaos, learned to move on, and as a result, has made a good life for herself.

Now she has chosen to share her own experiences and offer answers to those who also may be suffering from inner turmoil.

The licensed marriage and family therapist, and trauma expert, just releasedthe self-help book "Leverage:  The Science of Turning Setbacks Into Springsboards."  The 160-page book reminds us that cultivating happiness is a process. "Leverage" tells us that perhaps by hiding from our inevitable problems, we are actually missing the opportunity of growth.

Through its various methods including scientific studies, philosophical arguments, and user exercises — Leverage focuses on overcoming setbacks, and learning to become mentally strong. This comprehensive book is for everyone and anyone who has faced trauma and wants to triumph over it rather than bury it. "Leverage"  aims to teach us how to pay attention to adversity, face it head-on and look for joy in unexpected places, uncover strengths we may not have been aware of.

“In reflecting back, I was always fascinated by how although horrible, I felt as though my experience gave me many gifts. As a practicing therapist, I not only found myself facilitating growth through adversity, but became curious about it myself. The book is a culmination of what I have learned through my own experience, my work with clients, and in my research on just how we can grow through the struggle with setbacks,” Dorotik-Nana said.

Within the pages of "Leverage" Dorotik-Nana offers the reader concrete exercises to help develop their own ability to adapt and make the most of their own difficulties.

“In "Leverage", Dorotik-Nana provides a concise, alternate view of adversity, one in which our various problems lay before us a path toward growth. Unlike self-help books that offer an overly Pollyannaish picture of life and the issues that might be faced, Dorotik-Nana instead acknowledges the entirety of the struggle, giving the reader a clear idea of how even the most difficult aspects of trauma can occur concurrently with positive signs of growth. Indeed our attempts to dampen or even avoid these very aspects may hinder forwardprogression.”  —Krista Schnee, Pacific Book Review

If you are facing inner turmoil and need a new take on how to persevere, "Leverage" should be on your summer reading list. It is a unique book in scope and content that may be a beneficial read by anyone who may be seeking a new way to adapt and learn how to better walk through their own problems.

“…Too often we rush to put our difficulties behind us, thinking this allows us to get on with our lives and marks us as resilient,” Dorotick-Nana suggests. “What if the best way forward is not to skip to the end but to struggle for as long as necessary?”

For many, perhaps the answers to their own personal struggles, trials and tribulations, can be found within the pages of Dorotik-Nana’s "Leverage".
