NAPERVILLE, Ill. - May 8, 2015 - PRLog -- Mia Tischer’s motivation to open LearningRx Chicago-Naperville, the only one-on-one brain training center in Illinois, was from her daughter.

From the time Sophia was born, Tischer read to her for hours on end and Sophia, grew to love books. But when Sophia was in kindergarten, she wasn’t advancing in reading like many other children. “She couldn’t remember her sight words and couldn’t sound out words,” said Tischer, who worked with her daughter daily on reading.

The teacher said to be patient and that children learn at different rates, but in first grade it was the same thing. One day her daughter came home and said she had a bad brain. That’s when Tischer knew she had to take action. “Our daughter was smart, she was willing to work hard and there were no red flags yet from the teacher,” said Tischer. Still, as a mother, she knew something wasn’t right.

Tischer learned about LearningRx and it’s unique scientific process where a trainer works with a student on cognitive exercises that build strength in underlying core skills that make up the intellect. She thought “that’s it.” Sophia didn’t need tutoring or interventions, both of which were tried and didn’t work. She needed cognitive brain training. “I didn’t know it then but our daughter didn’t have the key underlying skills like long-term memory, auditory processing and processing speed, all of which are needed to decode, analyze words, blend sounds and read efficiently.” These are the skills make up phonemic awareness.

The first year opening up LearningRx, Sophia participated in the ReadRx program, which focuses intently on practicing and strengthening all of the core skills that make up reading. In less than a year, her reading test scores soared. Now in 5th grade, Sophia gets top test scores and grades and works independently on homework. Best yet, Sophia knows she is smart.

“It was the best decision I made for both my daughter and myself,” said Tischer. She believes that without LearningRx, Sophia would have continued challenges with reading. After participating in LearningRx, most students gain 3- 8 years on reading IQ tests, she said. “When I’m able to post-test students and see where they’ve come from, and see how far they advance, it’s the best part of my job. Then, I know I’m made a difference in someone’s life,” said Tischer.

LearningRx specializes in treating the root cause – not the symptoms – of learning struggles. Many students are able to get off medication and are able to manage their learning through brain training. The programs’ game-like exercises and 1:1 trainer-to-student ratios offer dramatic improvement in as little as 12 to 24 weeks. LearningRx brain training helps students from 5 to 85 increase the speed, power or function of their brain. LearningRx Chicago-Naperville opened in November 2011 in Naperville and is the only one-on-one Brain Training Center in Illinois.
