By: IntegraCare The seniors celebrated the tradition of Cinco de Mayo on Tuesday, May 5 with a mini piñata craft workshop followed by a social gathering at the senior living community at 220 Donahue Manor Road. A piñata traditionally is a decorated figure of an animal containing toys and candy that is suspended from a height and broken open by blindfolded children as part of a celebration. The Colonial Courtyard at Bedford seniors were eager to uphold the tradition. “Our residents really had a blast with the piñata craft workshop,” said Nanette Bankes, Activities Coordinator at Colonial Courtyard at Bedford. “They learned a lot about piñatas and how they are made. Plus, everyone seemed to enjoy the candy.” Colonial Courtyard at Bedford residents also participated in the opening ceremony of the Young at Heart Games on Monday, May 4 at the Procare Complex. Colonial Courtyard at Bedford is a co-sponsor of the Senior Olympic Games, which are for anyone age 50 or older. The Games take place throughout Bedford County during the month of May. “The Young at Heart Games are such an exciting and rewarding event that we look forward to each year,” Bankes said. “Our seniors truly are young at heart, and they accomplish what we consider extraordinary feats in the Games.” End
