GRAPEVINE, Texas - May 7, 2015 - PRLog -- SUMMARY

GRACE Grapevine is appealing to our community to help us serve over 38,500 meals to at-risk children during the summer months. In conjunction, GRACE will be launching its first Mobile Food Pantry for the GRACE Grocery Giveaway, a campaign that will provide supplemental food staples for families over the weekend. GRACE is calling upon corporate partners, civic groups and faith-based groups to serve as community volunteers and meal sponsors for Feed Our Kids.

FEED OUR KIDS

In its tenth year, GRACE Grapevine plans to serve over 38,500 meals for at-risk children at six Grapevine locations from 11:45 - 12: 45 p.m. each weekday from June 8 - August 21.

WHY MEALS MATTER

Meals for children whose families rely on free or reduced school lunches can often be jeopardized while school is not in session. Studies reveal that the meal provided through Feed Our Kids may be the only meal a child eats for the day. In a household where adequate food is limited, cutting back on groceries can be a coping mechanism when faced with seemingly impossible decisions between paying for other necessities like rent, utilities or medicine.

Families with children or single parents are the most likely to be at risk for hunger, with Texas ranking as the second-highest rate of at-risk individuals nationwide. GRACE alleviates this burden to ensure the most vulnerable children in our community are given a suitable meal during the summer months.

For the first time, families will also have the opportunity to receive weekend food staples through GRACE Grocery Giveaway, a mobile-pantry program that utilizes food and produce donations received at the end of the week to be enjoyed over the weekend.

COMMUNITY IMPACT

Participating in Feed Our Kids is an engaging and rewarding service opportunity ideal for corporations, civic groups and faith-based groups. The thousands of meals served at six locations require a committed community of volunteer meal hosts and food sponsors. For as little as $2 per child, a local group or business can commit to adopting a day or a workweek to host the meals. Groups also have the option of sponsoring the meals for other groups to host.

Depending on the site and type of meal, the average cost each day ranges between $100 and $500. While not required, groups are encouraged to bring games and engage with the children. GRACE Seasonal Program Manager, Lori Stevens, builds a tailored service project based on each group’s resources.  GRACE will be hosting a volunteer kick-off May 12 at First United Methodist Church Grapevine at the Heritage Campus (4344 Heritage Avenue across from Colleyville High School) from 6 - 7:30 p.m. with step-by-step instructions.
