HAMILTON, N.J. - May 7, 2015 - PRLog -- Hamilton, NJ (April 23, 2015) – Steven Weisz, founder of PhiladelphiaDANCE.org, has brought numerous dance programs to Grounds For Sculpture (GFS) over the past twelve years. His newest international project, Graffito Works (translated as “little scribbles” of movement) will premiere at the Anniversary Arts Party on June 6, 2015 at 2:00pm at GFS.

Graffito Works is a unique platform for dancers and performing artists to create site-specific work and to make it readily accessible to the public. Work is created in non-traditional spaces, challenging artists to push the boundaries of their craft, while making their work relevant and accessible to a wider audience.

The performance on June 6th will feature improvisational dance with movement that is spontaneously created and inspired by the exhibition In The Forest Drawn of Metal by artist Robert Lobe, currently on display in GFS’s West Gallery.  New Jersey/New York based artist Robert Lobe has created textured and anodized aluminum wall reliefs, made by hammering sheets of aluminum over natural forms in a technique similar to the tradition of repoussé.  The exhibition will also feature two wall sculptures that incorporate the noted paintings of New York based painter Kathleen Gilje in a series titled Forest Projects: Collaborative Works with Kathleen Gilje.

The dancers of Graffito Works will create movement that examines the textural nuances in nature, explores the creation of mimetic shells of originals, grounding and formation of roots, and the use of space along with an interplay of the unnatural and unpredictable in the physical world.

The Graffito Works’ performance is being held in conjunction with GFS’s birthday celebration. This fun-filled annual event will also feature drop-in workshops for children, performances, free ice cream and cake, and everyone’s favorite, a peacock calling contest!
