HOUSTON - May 6, 2015 - PRLog -- In a show of support for the local arts, PODS of Houston (http://www.podstexas.com/pods/houston)  donated the use of its PODS containers on May 2 to collect donations for the Texas Art Asylum at Sugar Land’s first “Art in the Park” event at Oyster Creek Park.  The event showcased several art exhibits including a collaboration between PODS and Houston Arts Alliance for its second art installation.

The four PODS containers, which took 3 months to transform them into various works of art, were placed in various locations throughout the Greater Houston area and reconvened back at Oyster Creek Park for “Art in the Park.”  The PODS containers are on display until the end of May.

“PODS of Houston is continually inspired by the artists who take the blank canvas of a PODS container and turn them into thought-provoking works of art that the entire community can enjoy,” explained Tim Preston, Vice President and General Manager of PODS of Houston.  “We are proud to be able to provide logistical needs to the Houston Arts Alliance and the City of Sugar Land for the “Art in the Park” event so these amazing art installations can travel throughout the Houston Area.”

The “Art in the Park” event gave patrons a rare opportunity to meet various artists, learn more about the different art initiatives within the community and view the local artwork. Children’s activities were also provided by local businesses like, Pinots Palette, Sugar Land Area Artist and Fort Bend Independent High School District art classes that created a plethora of activity booths to keep the children fully occupied.

Students in attendance, were also encouraged to participate in a student art show and competition that had them use mini PODS containers to create unique masterpieces.

“The art show and competition was a great way to get the students involved in creating their own unique artwork,” said Preston.  “PODS containers have been used in art installations across the country, but Houston Arts Alliance was the originator and we are proud to be involved in such a forward thinking art exhibit.”
