Follow on Google News | Remeha boilers deliver £7,000 energy savings for charity in six monthsBy: Remeha Commercial Aspire is a spinal injuries charity that provides practical support to the 40,000 people living with spinal cord injuries in the UK to assist them in leading fulfilled and independent lives. Located in the grounds of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, Middlesex, Aspire Leisure Centre boasts a 25-metre swimming pool with ramped access for wheelchair users in addition to a fully-integrated fitness studio, sports hall, cycling studio, dance studio, and a café area. When the nine existing boilers at the leisure centre in the pool side plant room began to fail, Harrow-based heating contractors PHD Mechanical Ltd recommended installing seven Quinta Pro 115kW replacement boilers in cascade due to the product’s reputation for reliability and high performance. Scott Morgan, Director of PHD Mechanical explained: “Aside from providing hot water for showers and underfloor heating, the main function of the boilers is to heat the swimming pool, maintaining the water temperature at a constant 31⁰C at all times for the benefit and safety of the users. Installing multiple Quinta Pro boilers in cascade operation not only overcame the space issue in the restricted plant room, but was the most effective solution to accurately meeting the heat output demand and guaranteeing greater reliability at the leisure centre.” In order to maintain the heating and hot water services throughout the installation, PHD Mechanical removed the failing boilers, rearranging the remaining functional equipment into one bank so as to create space for the installation of the first of the Quinta Pro boilers. The next step involved removing the remaining ageing boilers to complete the installation of the Quinta Pro cascade. New flueing was then positioned along the exterior of the building. With the addition of upgraded controls and a new building energy management system in place to allow for improved future management, control and monitoring of the boilers, Aspire is benefitting from more reliable, energy-efficient space and water heating. Brian Carlin, Chief Executive Officer of Aspire Leisure Centre commented: “The entire move from old to new boilers was completed in one day, enabling us to keep the centre open for our users. We’re delighted to report that since the refurbishment, the pool has remained at the correct temperature, with plenty of water for hot showers. Even more impressive is the energy we have saved since installing the Remeha boilers, which equates to £7,000 in the last six months alone.” The market-leading Remeha Quinta Pro range are fully modulating condensing boilers with outputs from 9 to 114kW, offering high efficiencies of 108.9% NCV ∆T 50/30˚C and excellent ultra-low NOx emissions for environmentally- The good practice at Aspire Leisure Centre has inspired ground-breaking developments such as InstructAbility, a national project to train disabled people as fitness instructors. The NHS has also used Aspire’s expertise in its recent video. With no statutory funding, Aspire depends on the generosity of its supporters to continue its supportive work with people with spinal cord injuries.
