JFYNetWorks: Innovation in College and Career Readiness

JFYNetWorks has re-invented itself-- again. It isn’t the first time and it won’t be the last. Innovation is our idiom, our instinct, our identity. It’s entwined in our DNA.

BOSTON - May 5, 2015 - PRLog -- For 39 years the Boston –based non-profit has created new forms of education and training to  help young people meet rising labor market demands.  Its  mission has always been economic opportunity and social mobility for urban youth, but its methods have changed with the economy. An inveterate innovator, JFYNetWorks has re-invented itself many times.

From competency-based instruction in the 1980s to sectoral job training in the 90s to blended learning in the 2000s, JFYNetWorks has developed new programs to meet the demands of each stage of economic transformation. Today, college readiness is the single most critical criterion for participation in the hyper-competitive labor market. JFYNetWorks  has redesigned its programs to focus on this critical objective.

“College and Career Readiness” signifies that college-level skills are no longer optional: they are  the minimum skill threshold that every high school graduate needs to cross. But one-third of our high school graduates cannot meet that standard.  This is why the US college graduation rate has fallen from first to nineteenth in the world. This is the “college readiness gap” that JFYNetWorks has taken on as the new object of its quest for economic opportunity and social mobility for urban youth.
