Follow on Google News | Wounded Navy Veteran Honored by DAV Flight Team at Barksdale Defenders of Freedom AirshowBy: DAV Flight Team Dennis Bell patriotically followed his family’s service to country when he enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1977. While serving aboard the USS Lexington he suffered a torn shoulder and was medically discharged. Although he was no longer able to serve within the Navy, Mr. Bell continued to serve his country by assisting local Louisiana veterans. Not only is Mr. Bell a 17-plus-year life member of Louisiana Shreveport-Bossier DAV Chapter 30, he has also served as DAV Chapter Commander, DAV Senior Vice Commander of the Department of Louisiana and has been a DAV chapter service officer volunteer for ten years. Mr. Bell is currently serving as the DAV National Deputy Chief of Staff Department of Louisiana. Although he has helped countless veterans obtain the benefits they've earned, one of the most notable individuals was none other than Mr. Bell’s younger brother, Staff Sergeant Chase - a Bronze Star recipient whom Mr. Bell was able to assist in receiving 100% service connection. “The DAV is a superb organization that takes care of veterans and their families. My heroes are the men and women of our armed forces who bravely sacrificed for our country. They are out there fighting for our right to be here today enjoying things like this air show. All of those men and women gave some…and some gave all,” said Mr. Bell. Dennis Bell proudly joins the DAV Flight Team at the Barksdale Air Force Base Airshow alongside the B-25 Show Me to provide information about DAV programs/benefits and to remind people of the sacrifices veterans make for freedom. The DAV Flight Team is an aviation outreach program on a nationwide airshow circuit to promote the services DAV provides to injured veterans and their family members. DAV (Disabled American Veterans), representing more than 1.2 million disabled veterans, is a non-profit organization founded in 1920 and chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1932. It is dedicated to one single purpose: fulfilling our promises to the men and women who served. End
