San Clemente Villas by the Sea Holds SOS Rally to Save Memorial Care Hospital

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. - May 1, 2015 - PRLog -- San Clemente Villas by the Sea (SCV (http://www.sanclementevillasbythesea.com/)) brought out an impressive group of residents recently to make a big “SOS statement”.  The resident rally shed light on the possible closure of the Mission Viejo-based Memorial Care Hospital next door to the SCV facility.

San Clemente Villas by the Sea has a vested interest in keeping the Memorial Care Hospital’s doors open given that its resident population is senior and often require medical care. “We use their services frequently, so it’s easy to understand why we want this facility to remain open,” said the Villas founder and co-owner Aileen Brazeau.

The entire Mission Viejo community looks to Memorial Care Hospital for medical treatment. The local paramedics, local population and concerned citizens within the city government are concerned about the closure. Currently the closest hospital and emergency room in Mission Viejo is provided by the Memorial Care Hospital; there are thousands of new homes being built throughout San Juan and San Clemente, and this hospital serves the existing and future residents moving to these new communities.

The San Clemente Memorial Care Health System is looking seriously at shutting down its hospital and ER at 654 Camino de los Mares to build a three-story medical pavilion offering a wide range of outpatient services at a lower cost than a hospital. In August 2014, Memorial Care announced proposed closure, with no plans to handle the 911 emergency services for local residents who became alarmed that closure of the only ER between Mission Viejo and Oceanside would create a huge gap in medical care coverage.

Then a local group of physicians formed savesanclementehospital.org. The Mission Viejo City Council also examined what the emergency room closure would cost taxpayers, since it would force local paramedics to deploy out of town on all 911 calls, making ambulances and their firefighter operators less available in town.  And, additional ambulances and OC Fire Authority personnel might be warranted.

Save-the-hospital advocates strongly advocate that Memorial Care maintain its hospital and ER services at the existing location.
