Follow on Google News | Art Gallery of Mississauga Appoints Mandy Salter as new AGM Director | CuratorApril 30, 2015 (Mississauga) With twenty years of success in museums, academia, and the private sector, including experience as a chief curator, collections manager, project manager, and private consultant, Salter brings a new level of expertise to the AGM. Salter graduated Magna Cum Laude with an M.A. in art history and classical civilizations from the University of Miami (Florida) in 1996, after having received a Recruitment Scholarship (1994-1996) and the Bass Museum Teaching Bursary (1994-1996). Her B.A. Honours in studio and art history is from the University of Windsor in 1994. In July of 2001, she received her Certificate in Fine Art Appraisals from the International Society of Appraisers with a concentration on projects related to museum collections and appraising cultural property. Salter has curated numerous exhibitions of modern and contemporary art nationally and internationally, and has published and lectured broadly. Her recent curatorial work includes Annie MacDonell: The Abyss and the Horizon; Seasons of Mist and Mellow, Fruitfulness: Salter's experience includes strategic and curatorial work for the city of Windsor regarding their public art collection and cultural heritage holdings and with the Art Gallery of Windsor where she was recently the Chief Curator and Collections Manager. Previously, Salter was the Manager of Exhibitions at the Ydessa Hendeles Art Foundation, Toronto and the Gallery Director at George Adams Gallery, NYC, where she was an agent for the first Art Miami/Art Basel (2002). Prior to her work in museums and galleries, Salter was on the faculty at Nova Southeastern University and The University of the West Indies and was an Educator/Programmer with the Art Gallery of Ontario's Anne Tannenbaum Gallery School. A certified appraiser with the International Society of Appraisers, Salter founded and directs her own boutique consulting agency. She provides public and private clients with collection management consultation services and has appraised and directed the restoration and conservation efforts for extensive collections of Canadian Cultural Property. Her client list includes the City of Windsor, Ontario; The Art Gallery of Windsor; The Detroit Institute for the Arts; The City of West Kelowna, B.C.; The Canadian Border Services Agency; Hiram Walkers Pernod and The Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Group. Salter will relocate to the GTA area from Tecumseh and will begin her new role in early June. She is the first female director in the twenty-seven year history of the AGM.
